Effect of Geotextile Installation on Soft Soil Settlement Underneath The Bridge Approach Slab

Abstract

Formation of bridge bump between bridge abutment and bridge approach slab was a problem that will require huge maintenance costs and endanger the safety of road users. In this paper 2D PLAXIS will be used to model the bridge approach slab to predict the soil settlement occurs underneath it. Different parameter of the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) geotextile will also be installed using PLAXIS software to view the performance of the geotextile on improvement of the soil settlement. Result shows the installation of geotextile reduce the settlement and increases the performance of the bridge approach slab.
