Abstract

Extension of Time (EOT) shall be assessed based on the knowledge of the superintendent officer and any information provided to him by the contractor. However, there are some problems that can delay the evaluation process of extension applications such as lack of submission details by contractors, delay of contractors in submitting applications and demonstration of the effect of delays on poor project completion dates. The contractor's failure to provide information is a factor that can be taken into account by the superintendent officer in evaluating applications for extension of time. This study was implemented to achieve two objectives, namely to identify the main problems that contribute to the evaluation of applications for extension of time for the construction of infrastructure projects and to examine the best practices used in the evaluation of applications for extension of time for the construction of infrastructure projects. There are three main problems faced by the superintendent officer in the application evaluation process, namely lack of information and details, delay in approval from the employer and delay in the contractor to submit the application. All the problems were highest selected by the respondents with a mean of 4.07 and 3.68. Full compliance with contract requirements is essential if a contractor is to obtain qualification (EOT). There are three best practices that need to be implemented to reduce the problem which is to prepare a complete report (EOT) with evidence, update and submit a delay report for approval and apply (EOT) immediately when work on the construction site is delayed. The main findings of this study are expected to make a significant contribution to the parties involved in infrastructure projects and thus help identify areas in need of improvement.
