Abstract

Malaysia is classified as a low to moderate seismic region, but in some cases and places, it will experience tremor risks from the tectonic plates’ activity. For example, in the year 2015, Ranau earthquakes happened with a magnitude of 6.0 and occurred crack on some buildings. The introduction of seismic design in reinforced concrete buildings will enhance and increase the safety of the building. This paper aims to explore the technologies and structural strategies that can support cost-effectiveness in seismic design in Malaysia. Method used in this study is by doing interviews with experts and based on the content analysis from the previous paper and case study. The findings will highlight the structural system optimisation and technology integration. Besides, this study will also look into the cost effectiveness of the technologies and structural efficiency.
