Addressing Supply Chain Inefficiencies in Nigeria Manufacturing: A Blockchain-Enabled Frameworks for Enhanced Visibility and Traceability

This paper assesses the performance implication of blockchain implementation in manufacturing supply chains in South-West Nigeria through a quasi-experimental, pre-post, and mixed-methods study. The data on the quantitative key performance indicator (KPI) of 150 manufacturing companies and the qualitative data of 100 top executives were examined. The results suggest that, the use of blockchain has a high level of traceability (up to 95%), reduced fraud (≈90%), and cost effectiveness (≈70%). Though, the results shows positive performance improvement, but the issues related to the initial investment, system interoperability, lack of scalability, and regulatory uncertainty still exist. The paper suggests a blockchain-based supply chain system that connects the technological elements and quantifiable performance indicators which can provide useful evidence-based advice to policy-makers and industry stakeholders.
